Purpose of the Job: Reporting to the Manager: Security Vetting, Administration, Standards and Policies, the successful incumbent is responsible for implementing and monitoring adherence and compliance of Firearm Management in line with the Firearm Act and prescripts within the RAF.

 

Key Performance Areas

 

Firearm Assessment, Compliance and Administration

  • Conduct Firearm Compliance Audits based on the Firearms Control Act and Regulations.
  • Conduct safe inspections of the safe and interview staff members that require firearms after hours and to store the firearm at their residence.
  • Control stock in order to validate that all company firearms, ammunition and equipment is accounted for.
  • Analyze and recommend firearm equipment/ accessories requirements needed by the close protectors.
  • Facilitate firearm training to all close protectors in line with the requirements.
  • Collect and transport firearms, ammunition, and equipment.
  • Issue firearms and permits to competent close protectors.
  • Collect firearms from SAPS stations.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest developments in firearm technology and industry trends.

 

Implement and Monitor Firearm Risk Management Process

  • Verify that the employee/s being issued with a firearm/s are in possession of a valid competency certificate for the specific category of firearm.
  • Control all access to the gun vault.
  • Maintain accurate and complete registers, permits and paperwork.
  • Inspect firearms and ammunition regularly in order to ensure that firearms are clean, in a working condition and serial numbers are visible and correct.

Reporting

  • Evaluate and report on the condition of firearms, ensuring they are in a proper working condition and free of any defects.
  • Compile written feedback reports on all audit findings, risk assessments, and follow-up on corrective actions taken or implemented.
  • Report on broken or faulty firearms received as per Firearms Policy.

 

Qualifications and Experience

  • National Diploma in Security Management/Policing related qualification.
  • PSIRA Grading.
  • Firearm Competency Certification for business purposes.
  • Relevant 3 years’ experience in Firearm Administration and Compliance environment.
  • Experience in working on the Electronic Firearm Management System.
